Why Invest in Australia?

With 2 billion+ hectares of degraded land worldwide, why choose to invest in Australian reforestation projects?

Companies and impact investors choose Australia for high-quality, high-integrity carbon removal reforestation projects packed with co-benefits so they can:

  • Benefit from a stable land and carbon rights framework
  • Reach carbon removal goals short, mid and long-term
  • Tap into large supply of degraded land to sequester high volume carbon
  • Address deforestation and biodiversity crisis of a UN-recognized mega-diverse country with unique ecosystems
  • Generate significant co-benefits for First Nations communities
  • Futureproof local and international supply chains

Land Life is one of the largest providers of internationally-certified, voluntary carbon removal projects in Australia. We brought our expertise, technology and innovation to Australia in 2019 and since then it has become one of our fastest-growing nature restoration hubs.

Invest now in Australian nature restoration, biodiversity and community.

A Stable Framework

Confidence in Australia's Regulatory Frameworks

Australia is an attractive destination for nature-positive companies seeking investment opportunities. The country offers a stable democracy, a supportive regulatory environment, and a streamlined legal framework, making reforestation project management efficient. With a reliable supply chain and top-tier restoration project partners, Australia stands out as a prime location for nature-based solutions. Managing projects using international carbon methodologies, such as Verra's VCS Program, is straightforward. Although Land Life's reforestation projects require months of careful planning, Australia's simple, low-barrier land access model and planting processes make getting a project off the ground extremely fast and efficient — an option not easily available in many other countries.

Attractive Carbon Capture

Australia's relatively fast carbon curve is due to our unique, carbon-dense ecosystem with trees that have long permanence. Investing in Australian reforestation projects means you'll reach your short, mid and long term carbon capture targets faster.

Australia's Carbon Curve

Australia’s unique ecosystems are not just rich in biodiversity—they are also powerful carbon sinks. By restoring degraded land with native forests and woodlands, we can capture and store vast amounts of carbon while building resilience against climate change. This chart depicts the net carbon range our plantings have the potential to sequester across a 40-year period.

Carbon Supply

High Volume of Carbon

Tap into the country's large supply of degraded and marginal agricultural land. Australia has more than 7.6 million km² of land where natural growing forests once spanned across the country. But since the 18th century, 50% of Australia's native forests and bush have been replaced or are considered degraded. Through a mixed model of land purchase and working with landowners, our Australian pipeline of large-scale degraded land offers buyers significant volumes of carbon.

Biodiversity Crisis

Opportunity for Extraordinary Biodiversity Impact

Australia faces a critical deforestation and biodiversity crisis, a situation of global concern. Did you know the country has one of the highest extinction rates worldwide, and it's accelerating? The Australian Conservation Foundation (ACF) reports that 100 unique Australian species—plants, fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals—have vanished in just 230 years. These irreplaceable losses diminish our ecosystems, culture, and language, making immediate action imperative.

Biodiversity

The Global Significance of Australian Biodiversity

Australia is a land of immense natural wealth, one of only 17 megadiverse countries recognized by the UN. This incredible biodiversity offers substantial opportunity for positive impact through nature restoration. With over 80% of our flora and fauna found nowhere else on Earth, the loss of species here means total extinction. This reality, underscored by a WWF report identifying Australia as a global deforestation hotspot—the only Global North nation on the list—makes Land Life’s work crucial. We're committed to reversing this trend by restoring native, biodiverse forests at scale. Our projects amplify your impact through strategic wildlife corridors and permanent legal protection, ensuring the long-term conservation of your restoration site.

Did You Know Koalas Are Endangered?

Biodiversity Co-Benefits

Building Resilience, Reconnecting Landscapes: A Future For Koalas

This work is particularly vital for Australia's cherished koala, now an endangered species. With only an estimated 3% of the pre-colonial population remaining, and a devastating 30% drop between 2018-2021 (Australian Koala Foundation), the future is uncertain. Land Life is creating more than just forests; we're building resilient native ecosystems with the capacity to adapt to future climate threats, including intensified bushfires. By strategically acquiring land, we’re establishing vital biolinks that connect nature reserves and healthy forest tracts. This reconnects fragmented landscapes, promoting species dispersal and diversity, and safeguarding the long-term survival of vulnerable and endangered species, such as our iconic koalas.

Supply Chains

Future-Proof Your Australian Supply Chain

In an era of supply chain uncertainty, investing in the resilience of natural ecosystems is a strategic move. Land Life's native restoration projects, located in Australia's key agricultural regions, help fortify your supply chain while fostering environmental sustainability. We partner with farmers, landowners, and government to reforest degraded agricultural land at scale, creating long-term ecological and economic benefits.

Supply Chains

Australian agriculture plays a crucial role in the world's food and fiber supply chain

Climate change and loss of biodiversity in Australia will have a significant impact on the world's food and fiber supply. A massive 60% of Australia is privately owned or leased for agriculture and 72% of agricultural production is exported. Yet farmers are already grappling with the impacts of climate change. Did you know? + Australia is the world's no. 1 barley exporter, accounting for a 5th of global barley trade + No. 2 exporter of beef and raw sugar in the world and 5th largest wine exporter + No. 1 global supplier of wool and the world's largest wool export nation, producing 45% of global wool exports + Australian wheat accounts for 10 to 15% of the world's annual global wheat trade

Co-Benefits

Co-Benefits for First Nations Communities

We're committed to working with Traditional Owners to identify opportunities for Indigenous socio-economic development and cultural outcomes across all stages of our nature restoration projects, while tapping into vast Indigenous knowledge, such as cultural burnings and native seed collection, for impactful outcomes.

Co-Benefits

First Peoples Engagement in Practice

An exciting example of First Nations co-benefits can be demonstrated by our 2025 'Talia' reforestation project in South Australia. For around 65,000 years, Talia was home to the Wirangu and Nauo First Peoples. The landscape was a flourishing and healthy ecosystem providing shelter, food, medicine and implements for survival. However, since European settlement in the 1850s, Talia's Indigenous custodians were forced off their land and many people lost their lives. Displaced and disconnected, generations of Wirangu and Nauo have sought access to their home and sacred connections to heritage and ancestors. Over the last 170+ years, they've watched this rich landscape become degraded - leaving it depleted and its native flora and fauna vulnerable and at threat of extinction. Initial outcomes from the Talia project include access to the land for Elders to teach their youth cultural heritage and connection to Country, which has been lost over generations. There will also be employment opportunities across the project including restoration land management activities. Land Life looks forward to continuing engagement with the Wirangu and Nauo First Peoples to deliver further positive impacts from the Talia project.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does it work with registration and issuance of credits?

  • Land Life sends the details of your project to VERRA upon completion of planting. VERRA-certified independent auditors conduct a comprehensive evaluation of your reforestation project and validate the amount of carbon sequestration. VERRA then issues your Verified Carbon Units (VCU) valid for a 40 year period. You choose when to retire these VCUs.
