As announced at the UN General Assembly SDG Summit in New York, a partnership project between Land Life Company and the UNHCR was selected for the Global Best Practice Programme of the Dubai Expo 2020.
The organization has selected 25 projects which tackle world problems in a simple but effective way and can easily be adapted to have a large-scale impact. The Green Refugee Camp is one of these projects, showcasing tangible solutions that contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Green Refugee Camp
The “Green Refugee Camp” program involves the reforestation of more than 100 hectares of severely degraded land around the Minawao Refugee Camp in Cameroon together with the refugees and the local communities.
This initiative restores nature by planting trees in an area that has become arid over time. Additionally, the program provides employment, food, heavily needed shade and increases the well-being of many local families.
Selected projects from the Global Best Practice Programme, including the “Green Refugee Camp”, will be showcased at the Dubai Expo 2020, a global platform that will run from October 2020 to April 2021.
These projects will directly feed into the Expo’s thematic and SDG programming. The Expo is expected to receive over 25 million visitors and worldwide media attention.
