Land Life Company seeks an Operations Manager in Spain

This Is Us

Our mission is to reforest the world’s 2 billion hectares of degraded land, addressing climate change at scale and without apology.

We develop and deploy sustainable, disruptive technologies to plant and nurture trees at scale, kick-start healthy ecosystems and support the communities which depend on them. Climate-conscious brands, NGOs and governments work with us to go beyond neutralizing carbon emissions and make a meaningful change for future generations.

Land Life was founded in 2013 by Jurriaan Ruys (former McKinsey partner) and Eduard Zanen (founder of Bugaboo) on the conviction that a business approach and innovative technology solutions are critical to rebuilding this planet. We are headquartered in Amsterdam, with teams in the US, Spain, and Mexico.

This Is The Role

In Northern Spain we work with local organisations such as the Junta de Castilla y León to restore degraded land and reforest public land. In addition to regenerating large swaths of land in rural communities, we promote biodiversity enhancement and also support conservation efforts for iconic wildlife. This area is at extreme risk of rural depopulation and climate change.

Both in Spain and the rest of the world, Land Life is growing fast, we have planted close to 1 million trees in 2019 and foresee continued high growth. In Spain, by the end of this planting season, we will have planted more than 650,000 trees and are looking to scale up. We seek an experienced operations manager who can plan, manage and monitor our large-scale projects in Spain.

The responsibilities of an operations manager will include but will not be limited to:

  • Planning large-scale projects to plant 100+ hectares at a time in different areas of Spain;
  • Visiting and assessing possible planting sites, working with local stakeholders to secure permission and access rights;
  • Lead planting design and technical project drafting, including plot division and design, land preparation requirements and species selection (memorias técnicas y pliegos de condiciones de obra);
  • Ensure flawless execution by managing and tracking resources and timing (e.g. labour, materials, equipment, seedlings, etc.);
  • Lead planting work on field, including managing logistics, supervision in the field, point of contact to planting crew and other stakeholders;
  • Monitor the growth of the trees year round and set up collaboration opportunities with local stakeholders;
  • Consolidating information for planting sites for internal reporting, budget and inventory tracking.
