Land Life Company seeks an Operations Manager in Texas

This Is Us

Our mission is to reforest the world’s 2 billion hectares of degraded land, addressing climate change at scale and without apology.

We develop and deploy sustainable, disruptive technologies to plant and nurture trees at scale, kick-start healthy ecosystems and support the communities which depend on them. Climate-conscious brands, NGOs and governments work with us to go beyond neutralizing carbon emissions and make a meaningful change for future generations.

Land Life was founded in 2013 by Jurriaan Ruys (former McKinsey partner) and Eduard Zanen (founder of Bugaboo) on the conviction that a business approach and innovative technology solutions are critical to rebuilding this planet. We are headquartered in Amsterdam, with teams in the US, Spain, and Mexico.

This Is The Role

In the Lower Rio Grande Valley we work with local organisations such as the Fish and Wildlife Service to restore the native thornshrub forests. This is a vital part in the habitat for the endangered ocelots and more than 500 other wildlife species. The Valley has suffered from urbanization and the human need for agricultural land.

Both in Texas and the rest of the world, Land Life is growing fast. We have planted close to 1 million trees in 2019 and foresee continued high growth. In Texas, we planted 300,000 trees to date and are looking to scale up. We seek an experienced operations manager to plan, manage and monitor our large scale projects in Texas.

The responsibilities of an operations manager will include but will not be limited to:

  •  Plan large-scale projects to plant 100,000+ trees at a time in South Texas.
  •  Ensure flawless execution by managing and tracking resources and timing (e.g. labour, materials, equipment, seedlings, etc.).
  •  Develop and track timelines and budgets.
  •  Lead planting work in the field, including managing logistics, supervision in the field, point of contact to planting crew and other stakeholders.
  •  Monitor the growth of the seedlings year round.
  •  Help set up a new nursery with local partners (incl. UTRGV).
  •  Manage the relationship with local federal agencies and local universities.
This Is You

You will be the first Land Life Company employee in South Texas. That means there is a lot of opportunity to shape the role and the work we do here, but it also means being a strong self-starter and very independent. There will be regular communications with other Land Life employees, both over the phone, email and in-person.

The following outlines our target profile:

  •  3-5 year of relevant work experience.
  •  Bachelor degree in environmental sciences or biology.
  •  Great sense of ownership over the projects.
  •  Ability to solve problems as they arise in the field.
  •  Excellent communication and people management skills.
  •  Native English speaker; Spanish is nice to have.
  •  Living in the Lower Rio Grande Valley area, ability to travel within South Texas.
  •  Flexibility in working hours and travel to other project sites as needed.
This Is What We Offer

Competitive start-up salary, exposure to a fast-growing international reforestation company and the opportunity to travel within the U.S. and internationally.
