Global partnership delivers large-scale reforestation and high-integrity carbon project in South Australia

Land Life has partnered with Carbon2Nature Australia to launch their first Australian carbon removal project under the Australian Carbon Credit Unit scheme.

Global partnership delivers large-scale reforestation and high-integrity carbon project in South Australia

  • Two global leaders in nature-based solutions — Land Life and Carbon2Nature Australia, the local subsidiary of Iberdrola Group’s dedicated nature restoration company, have partnered on their first Australian project under the ACCU scheme: the 688-hectare Talia restoration site on South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula.
  • The project is designed to generate high-integrity Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs), restore critically endangered native Drooping Sheoak grassy woodland, deliver measurable biodiversity and cultural outcomes, and build long-term ecological resilience in partnership with Traditional Owners.
  • Talia marks Land Life's and Carbon2Nature´s first project under the ACCU scheme, demonstrating how international investment and local partnerships can drive ambitious, nature-based climate action.

Australia (C2N) has partnered with global restoration company, Land Life, to launch their first Australian carbon removal project under the Australian Carbon Credit Unit (ACCU) scheme. Carbon2Nature Australia is the local subsidiary of Iberdrola Group’s nature-based solutions company and a joint venture with Iberdrola Australia. The Talia restoration initiative will restore 688 hectares of native woodland on South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula, delivering long-term carbon removal and biodiversity benefits.

Global partnership restoring Talia

This flagship project comes at a pivotal moment for Australia, which is emerging as a global leader in nature-based climate solutions. With a new 2035 emissions reduction targetOpens in a new tab. and growing international confidence in the ACCU scheme and Nature Repair Market frameworksOpens in a new tab., the country is drawing international investment and partnerships because of its rising ambition, science-backed frameworks, and its growing portfolio of high-integrity nature-based projects.

The Talia project restores critically degraded land and generates ACCUs under the federal Emissions Reduction Fund (ERF) scheme – marking Land Life and Carbon2Nature’s first project under the ACCU framework. It also delivers quantified biodiversity gains and supports cultural reconnection for the Wirangu and Nauo First Peoples, who have re-accessed this land for the first time since colonisation in the 1850s.

"C2N conducted stringent due diligence when assessing this restoration project, and we’re very excited about the impactful benefits beyond carbon removal," said Tracey Russell, General Manager of Carbon2Nature Australia. "In addition to generating high-integrity ACCUs, we are working with the Accounting for Nature framework to establish a biodiversity baseline using advanced ecological techniques. This enables us to measure and report on ecological impact while preparing for opportunities in Australia’s new Nature Repair Market.

Restoring ecosystems and protecting endangered species

The Eyre Peninsula has . Without large-scale reforestation, this entire vegetation class – and the species that depend on it – risk disappearing from South Australia.

Talia is strategically positioned alongside Kulliparu National Park and contributes to a vital biolink that stretches from the Gawler Ranges to the west coast. The project enhances biodiversity, builds ecological resilience, and supports threatened species.

"Talia is a grounded, real-world restoration initiative that shows what the future of nature-based climate action can look like," said Tim Ferraro, Land Life’s APAC Regional Director. As the Nature Repair Market evolves, we’re already delivering the kind of measurable, science-based biodiversity outcomes Australia needs. This isn’t about short-term fixes or box-ticking carbon projects – it’s about delivering real, lasting restoration with Traditional Owners at the centre."

Strengthening cultural connections

Cultural co-benefits are central to the project. Land Life and local restoration partner, engaged closely with the Wirangu and Nauo Aboriginal Corporation from the outset to ensure the project deepens community-led restoration and Traditional Owner engagement – a shared goal of both Land Life and C2N,This includes knowledge-sharing on cultural burning practices with support from the

Designed for climate and biodiversity integrity

Talia was revegetated using the Reforestation by Environmental or Mallee Plantings – FullCAM method (2024)Opens in a new tab. and is expected to issue around 114,000 ACCUs over its crediting period. However, as the project lifetime is 100 years, the actual sequestration will be a lot higher. The project has been designed to restore native vegetation structure, enhance biodiversity, and support forest cover targets in a climate-resilient way. The integrity of the project will be further enhanced with an in-perpetuity Heritage Agreement to be placed on the site, securing the protection of the land forever.
