Discover the Land Life's Scientific Advisory Board members, who bring unparalleled reforestation and sustainable forestry expertise to our nature-tech projects.

Land Life's Scientific Advisory Board

We're excited to introduce Land Life's Scientific Advisory Board members. These experts in reforestation and sustainable forestry bring invaluable knowledge and guidance to our nature-tech reforestation projects. By combining cutting-edge science and innovative technology, they help us achieve our mission of restoring degraded ecosystems on a large scale with the highest scientific and integrity standards.

Scientific Advisory Board Members

Prof. Dr. Andreas Bolte – Thünen Institute

As the Head of the Institute of Forest Ecosystems at the Thünen Institute, a German Federal Research Institute, Prof. Dr. Andreas Bolte focuses on forest resources, climate protection, soil protection, forest health, and forest ecology and biodiversity.

Prof. Dr. Ir. GMJ (Frits) Mohren – Wageningen University

Professor of Forest Ecology and Forest Management at Wageningen University, Prof. Dr. Ir. GMJ (Frits) Mohren's research interest has shifted from the production ecology of trees and forests to analyzing management systems and the knowledge and information needed.

Prof. Dr. Santi Sabaté – University of Barcelona

Co-author of GOTILWA+ and a professor at the University of Barcelona, Prof. Dr. Santi Sabaté's research interests include forest structure and functioning, carbon, water, and nutrient balances, and forests' ecophysiological responses to climate change, drought, forest fires, and forest management.

Prof. Dr. Belinda Medlyn – Western Sydney University

Distinguished Professor Belinda Medlyn leads the Climate and Forest Ecosystem Modelling Group at the Hawkesbury Institute for the Environment at Western Sydney University. Her research focuses on developing evidence-based models for ecosystem productivity, water use, and species composition in response to global change.

Prof. Dr. Klaus Puettmann – Oregon State University

A renowned faculty member in the Department of Forest Ecosystems & Society at Oregon State University's College of Forestry, Prof. Dr. Klaus Puettmann's research spans silviculture, forest ecology, and sustainable forest management. He focuses on understanding and managing complex forest ecosystems for multiple values and services.

The Importance of Knowledge and Research in Reforestation

At Land Life, knowledge and research are crucial to our work. We must stay current with the latest research and advancements to implement large-scale reforestation projects with science and technology.

In 2019, Prof. Dr. Koen Kramer of Wageningen University joined Land Life as Director of Science. His expertise has been instrumental in shaping our scientific approach and ensuring our projects are grounded in robust research.

Establishment of the Scientific Advisory Board

In 2020, we took a significant step forward by establishing a Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) with expertise in reforesting degraded ecosystems. This board oversees global scientific programs and supports Land Life in executing projects with the highest scientific standards. The SAB advises on scientific and technological matters and reviews and monitors our reforestation projects, helping us be the best we can be.

Conclusion

The Scientific Advisory Board of Land Life comprises some of the most distinguished reforestation experts from around the globe. Their combined expertise in forest ecology, climate change, sustainable management, and advanced modeling ensures that our nature-tech reforestation projects are executed with precision and innovation. By integrating their insights and guidance, we continue to advance our mission of restoring degraded ecosystems and promoting sustainable forestry practices worldwide.
