Methodologies

A Choice of Methodologies

Customise your nature restoration project to fit your budget, risk profile, and stakeholder needs. Land Life provides a unique offering of either ACCUs or VCS carbon methodologies for nature restoration in Australia. This allows us to apply the Verra or ACCU Environmental Planting Method which best suits your project. ACCUs are recognised under the Australian Government Safeguard Mechanism and other programs, while VCS is regulated by Verra and are the world's leading voluntary carbon removal credits From voluntary VCS projects to our new ACCU project in South Australia (110,000 tCO2 to be sequestered!), we've got you covered.

Risk Mitigation

Why Choose VCS: Land Life's Advantage with FastTrack

Comparing premium ACCU and VCS reforestation projects, the costs are similar. But Land Life's VCS projects provide greater certainty in carbon projections. While ACCU projects rely on modeled estimates (FullCAM), Land Life's VCS projects can take advantage of FastTrack—our exclusive, site-specific carbon projection tool, unique in Australia.

FastTrack uses local data from your site for highly accurate projections, which, combined with ongoing biomass monitoring, minimises future uncertainties and ensures your project reflects the actual carbon stored. This accuracy translates to:

Increased confidence in sharing projections with stakeholders.

More informed risk assessment during the project design phase

Proactive climate risk management and informed decision-making.

FastTrack vs FullCAM

What are the benefits of accessing FastTrack for your project?

  • Site-Specific Data: FastTrack uses data tailored to the specific site's climate, elevation, and location, not general averages.
  • Reflects Our Planting: It accounts for our specific mix of plant species and planting densities.
  • Transparent Methodology: FastTrack's calculations are based on observable, in-the-field factors.

For example, on a Land Life site in Victoria, FastTrack predicts ~20% greater carbon storage than FullCAM over the project's lifetime, significantly boosting carbon credit potential.

Building Resilience, Reconnecting Landscapes: A Future For Koalas

Vast areas of degraded land have posed an enormous threat to the biodiversity in Australia. Over 80% of Australia's flora and fauna are endemic, which means species are found nowhere else in the world. In other words, if a species is lost in Australia, it will be extinct worldwide. Land Life projects address Australia's biodiversity crisis by building resilient, biodiverse native forests and functioning ecosystems at scale - with adaptive capacity to prepare for future climate scenarios, such as the increase and severity of bushfires. We're on a mission to establish biolinks to nearby nature reserves and healthy tracts of native forest through strategic land acquisition. Reconnecting fragmented landscapes supports dispersal potential and species diversity, and aids the longevity of vulnerable and endangered species, such as our beloved koalas. Our projects are also permanently protected with legal covenants, including in-perpetuity conservation management and biodiversity protection of your restoration site.

Large Project Pipeline: Reach Your Carbon Capture Goals Faster

Australia has more than 7.6 million km² of land where natural growing forests once spanned across the country. But since the 18th century, 50% of Australia's native forests and bush have been replaced or are considered degraded.

Through a mixed model of land purchase and working with landowners, our Australian pipeline of large-scale degraded land offers buyers significant volumes of carbon.

We're scaling fast to meet demand. Across our 2025/26 Planting Seasons Land Life will restore the same amount as the previous six years combined.

Future-Proof Your Local Supply Chain

Climate change and loss of biodiversity in Australia will have a significant impact on the world's food and fiber supply. A massive 60% of Australia is privately owned or leased for agriculture and 72% of agricultural production is exported. Yet farmers are already grappling with the impacts of climate change. As many companies look to secure their supply chain, restoring natural ecosystems adjacent to these supply chains is also a wise investment. Our native restoration projects are in some of Australia's largest agricultural states. Land Life prioritises the restoration of degraded agricultural land, working with farmers, private landowners and government to reforest unproductive and/or marginal zones at scale.

Co-Benefits

First Peoples Engagement in Practice

Our 2025 'Talia' reforestation project in South Australia offers a powerful example of First Nations co-benefits. For over 65,000 years, Talia was home to the Wirangu and Nauo First Peoples, a place of thriving ecosystems that sustained their way of life. Following European settlement in the 1850s, they were forcibly removed, suffering immense loss. Displaced and disconnected, generations have since sought access to their home and sacred connections to heritage and ancestors. They've witnessed the land's degradation and the threat to its unique biodiversity. Our Talia project will begin to restore that connection. Initial outcomes from the Talia project include access to the land for Elders to teach their youth cultural heritage and connection to Country, lost over generations. There will also be employment opportunities across the project including restoration land management activities. Land Life looks forward to continuing engagement with the Wirangu and Nauo First Peoples to deliver further positive impacts over the coming years.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does it work with registration and issuance of credits?

  • Land Life sends the details of your project to VERRA upon completion of planting. VERRA-certified independent auditors conduct a comprehensive evaluation of your reforestation project and validate the amount of carbon sequestration. VERRA then issues your Verified Carbon Units (VCU) valid for a 40 year period. You choose when to retire these VCUs.
